Syntax I: An introduction to syntactic theory and phenomena for linguists and non-linguists. We concentrate on building a theoretical modal by examining empirical data. Topics covered include Phrase Structure Grammars, X-bar Theory, Minimalism, constituency, c-command, binding theory, complements/adjuncts, movement, among others.
Syntax II: Advanced syntactic analysis and theory. Within a Minimalist framework, we explore current issues in syntactic theory by examining topics such as fine-grained VP structure, raising/control, movement and movement diagnostics, ellipsis, case, and covert movement.
